Grupo Especiais Mocambique

Description

My RENDITION of a 'Grupo Especiais' Trooper in Mocambique, these were the Mocambiquan African version of the 'Flechas' in Angola, [another unit which was based on the tracking skills of Eastern Angola's Bushmen]. The Mocambiquan version was based on the African population, established since 1970 by the Command-in-Chief of the Portuguese Armed Forces in Mozambique , to act in War Overseas . Later were also constituted Special Groups units Parachute (GEP) able to perform airborne operations. In 1974 were operating 84 Special Groups and Special Groups 12 paratroopers.  pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grupos_E…
He is wearing a M961 issue hat which has been dyed Black, they fought in their Black uniforms but did not use it for Parades, when they wore a Canary Yellow Beret. [see Osprey's African Wars 2 ]
When Mocambique became independent, they either emigrated to Rhodesia [Selous Scouts] or went to work/fight in South Africa or face possible execution by FRELIMO.
Following Pixelartist deserve a mention in dispatches:-
Seth45 for the excellent G3 rifle.

Good Work:

Hi, just notice now that you resubmitted the file to Pixel Archives that the text has an inaccuracy: “…these were the Mocambiquan African version of the 'Flechas' in Angola”, the issue is that there were both “GE” and “Flechas” in Angola and Mozambique. Although, as far as I know there were only “GEP” in Mozambique.

Basically both units used local tribesmen, but the Flechas had many ex-guerrilla fighters and were directly linked with the “PIDE”, the Portuguese Secret Police at the time.

The GEP never used in parades the black uniform : www.operacional.pt/grupos-espe…
